The Subaru Outback comes available with several high-tech features including a power rear tailgate. If you have interest in this SUV, or have already purchased one with a hands-free tailgate, you might not know how to use this convenient feature. Let provide a troubleshooting guide for your convenience at Cross Creek Subaru. You will find our dealership here in Fayetteville and less than an hour away from Sanford, NC.

Activating Your Outback's Power Tailgate

  1. First, for your safety, make sure the Subaru is fully parked, preferably on a flat surface for easier access.
  2. Unlike other new cars near Hope Mills, NC, Subaru's hands-free tailgate sensor is not a "kicker" under the bumper, but rather, the Subaru logo on the tailgate itself.
  3. Simply wave your hand in front of the Subaru logo and retract it immediately, and the door will swing open. An audible beep will be heard.
  4. Make sure you withdraw your hand immediately after placing it in front of the logo. If not, the sensor will beep but the tailgate will not open, to prevent you from getting hit with the door when it's opened.
  5. When you see the tailgate open, take a step back to clear the way.
