Subaru BRZ Clinches Third Straight Spot on Car and Driver’s 2026 Editors’ Choice List
Hey car enthusiasts, exciting news from the world of affordable sports cars! The 2026 Subaru BRZ has just been named to Car and Driver’s prestigious Editors’ Choice list for the third year in a row. This lightweight rear-wheel-drive coupe continues to impress with its blend of performance, handling, and value, earning high marks from expert reviewers.

Announced by Subaru of America on February 3, 2026, the BRZ was honored in the Affordable Sports Cars category. To make the cut, vehicles undergo rigorous testing by Car and Driver’s team, who evaluate over 450 models across 47 segments. Only those scoring at least 9 out of 10 stars qualify, and the BRZ nailed it again.
Jeff Walters, President and Chief Operating Officer at Subaru of America, summed it up perfectly: “The Subaru BRZ delivers performance, balance, and superb driving dynamics at an affordable price that we’re proud of. It’s an honor to be recognized for the third year running by the experts at Car and Driver.”
Tony Quiroga, editor-in-chief of Car and Driver, explained the awards’ purpose: “The Editors’ Choice awards are designed to help overwhelmed car shoppers by giving them a list of the best cars on the market. Every vehicle that earns an Editors’ Choice award should be a candidate for consideration.”
Under the hood, the 2026 BRZ packs a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter SUBARU BOXER engine churning out 228 horsepower, routed to the rear wheels for that pure sports-car thrill. It comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, or you can opt for a tuned 6-speed automatic. Key features include a TORSEN limited-slip rear differential, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires, refined throttle response, and updated electronic power steering.
Safety isn’t overlooked either—all models feature Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, even with the manual gearbox. This includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, and Lead Vehicle Start Alert. Plus, Blind-Spot Detection with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert adds extra peace of mind.

Adding some flair for 2026 is the new limited-edition BRZ Series.Yellow. This eye-catching trim sports an exclusive “Sunrise Yellow” exterior, matte black wheels, and yellow accents inside, like stitching on the seats, instrument panel, and doors. Only 350 units will be produced, arriving later this year with an MSRP of $39,360. The standard BRZ starts at $35,860 and is available now.
Subaru of America, headquartered in Camden, NJ, is a subsidiary of Subaru Corporation of Japan. They distribute vehicles through about 640 retailers nationwide, with all products made in zero-landfill plants. Guided by the Subaru Love Promise, the company has donated over $340 million to community causes in the past 20 years and logged more than 115,000 employee volunteer hours. They’re committed to being More Than a Car Company.

If you’re in the market for a fun, balanced sports car that won’t break the bank, the 2026 BRZ deserves a spot on your shortlist.
